Canada has shifted governmentally from a fragmented minority scenario to what Prime Minister Harper has been declaring will be, "A stable government." May 2nd, 2011 was truly a historic day for this generation in Canada. HIGHLIGHTS: Prime Minister Harper shifted into a majority Conservative government with a 166 seat victory. Several key Liberals lost their seats (Michael Ignatieff, Mark Holland and others). Jack Layton's NDP came in from behind and unseated the Liberals as the official opposition. Along with this the NDP sent the Bloc tumbling in Quebec (including the defeat of long time party leader Gilles Duceppe). Elizabeth May of the Green Party won their historic first win and the list could continue. This day was full of surprises and one thing is definitely evident: Canada has shifted.
.
In his victory speech Prime Minister Harper said, "...it's been a long campaign but now we can turn the page on the uncertainties and repeat elections of the past seven years and focus on building a great future for all of us..."

In honour of the spirit of democracy and social responsibility we at MY Canada want to personally want to thank all of you who took this election to heart in prayer, by volunteering and by getting out to vote today. You were a part of shaping history and we are believing for the best as we get to know our new MPs and go forward as a nation. Our leaders have an incredible task in front of them. In times of unprecedented global shaking, tensions and many national challenges still to overcome here at home they will need our prayers, love, support and our input now more than ever. As Prime Minister Harper said in his speech, "...now it is time to get to work..." and build a great future.
.
Along with this Minister Jason Kenney pointed out in a national interview that in this election Canadians voted their "values." That is an awesome observation. He also noted that there was an unprecedented number of ethnic voters that stepped up at the polls. Our sense is that some of the strongest voices for family, life, against poverty and other human rights issues will come from those that are considered 'ethnic minorities' and we want to encourage you to share your views with confidence to our newly elected Members of Parliament as they prepare to get back to the House. You are a key voice in this nation and this election proved that.
.
Currently we watch in amazement as historic events unfold before us in Canada. Drink it in. Furthermore, let us continue to resolve in our hearts to leave this nation better than we found it. God has great plans for Canada and you are ALL a key part of that plans unfolding - you were today and you will continue to be in the future. Bless you and thank you again for all you did to be a voice in prayer, help on the front lines of campaigns and at the ballot box during this election.
.
Finally, to quote our Prime Minister in his closing remarks of his victory speech, "God bless Canada. God keep Canada glorious and free."
