Six weeks ago I was walking the halls of the Holocaust Museum in Washington DC that mid week, this week, was being ambushed with gunfire. That in itself is a sobering - or should I say chilling -- thought. It could have been my body caught in the cross fire of an 88-year old fanatic's anti-jew and anti-black zeal and I'm Canadian, not even Jewish (that I know of).
It is my understanding, from friends who have served in the forces, that the only people in Canada who are allowed to carry arms for security are police officers but their roles are primarily responsive, not front line protection like the security guard who protected multitudes in the museum during the grumpy-gramps rampage. It got me to thinking, if this would have happened in Canada what the outcome would have been? Seems pretty straight forward: instead of one dead security guard, it likely would have been dozens of dead tourists.
I think it is time for Canada to wake up - the world is not at all as it used to be. Protect the jews. Protect the blacks. Protect the tourists! Give trained security guards what they need to protect people - anything else seems self defeating and semi-insane.
